I can only start this rec list by the SUPERB fic I received featuring wonderful speculation on Foxface from The Hunger Games. The POV here is handled with a deft, subtle hand, allowing the narrative to twist into this narrowing, almost claustrophobic focus that mirrors Stella as she struggles to survive the games. I love the hints throughout of her eventual downfall, the failure of logic in this manufactured world of gross inequality and certain death. There’s only room for one “happy” ending in the games, and Stella catches on quick that it won’t be hers, yet the piece doesn’t fall into the trap of exploiting that for bleakness. This fic left me desperately wanting more of Stella, just as I was of Foxface after first reading the book, and is just absolutely the perfect piece I could have ever asked for.

7 chapters and nearly 13,000 words of Brienne being awesome? I feel like it is my birthday all over again! I’m a sucker for any piece on the problem of conflicting vows and what the right thing truly is, and Gehayi does a really great job here exploring both. I love how deftly Brienne’s central conflicts are handled, and how the characters are allowed to have their quiet moments without relying on quips or banal dialogue to pad the scenes.
