Rarewomen for the win!
So Rarewomen reveals happened! AND THERE SO MANY GOOD FICS, SO MANY AMAZING WOMEN FEATURED! I wish I could rec everything, but the master list is here, and A03 has a a more list of fics by fandom here. GO READ EVERYTHING!
She remembered how Johanna had won. She may not be Johanna Mason, but she had learned her lessons well.
I can only start this rec list by the SUPERB fic I received featuring wonderful speculation on Foxface from The Hunger Games. The POV here is handled with a deft, subtle hand, allowing the narrative to twist into this narrowing, almost claustrophobic focus that mirrors Stella as she struggles to survive the games. I love the hints throughout of her eventual downfall, the failure of logic in this manufactured world of gross inequality and certain death. There’s only room for one “happy” ending in the games, and Stella catches on quick that it won’t be hers, yet the piece doesn’t fall into the trap of exploiting that for bleakness. This fic left me desperately wanting more of Stella, just as I was of Foxface after first reading the book, and is just absolutely the perfect piece I could have ever asked for.
Post-A Feast for Crows. Keeping oaths is a deadly business, and nobody knows this better than Brienne of Tarth.
7 chapters and nearly 13,000 words of Brienne being awesome? I feel like it is my birthday all over again! I’m a sucker for any piece on the problem of conflicting vows and what the right thing truly is, and Gehayi does a really great job here exploring both. I love how deftly Brienne’s central conflicts are handled, and how the characters are allowed to have their quiet moments without relying on quips or banal dialogue to pad the scenes.
Super powered Psych fanfic about how awesome Karen Vick is? This is everything I’ve ever wanted from a Psych fic and MORE.
Might as well add a link for what I wrote, too:
Your entire life has been spoilers, how could your death be any different?
(aka Kol writes Homestuck AND Redglare for the first time! OMG!)
Definitely not the fic I set out to write back in February, but my recipient liked it, so I’m riding a pretty big ego-boost right now :3!
Maybe I can use the push from rarewomen reveals to finish the Matsumoto Rangiku piece I’ve been tinkering with since January…
